Quick Tips: Twitter Hashtags

I'm definitely not a business person. I'm a head-in-the-clouds, sees-unicorns-and-butterflies-everywhere, creative thinker. So, marketing myself to gain traffic to my blog/shop/Facebook is definitely not my strong suit! However, I realize that as I hope to become a creative entrepreneur in the coming months and years... I probably should study up on how this all works.

You know how they always say to advertise to your target market?? I haven't taken any business courses yet, but I've always sort of wondered exactly HOW you would go about finding &/or marketing to said target audience. No one ever seems to talk about that.

I re-discovered a tip the other day regarding Twitter though that gave me some ideas. Basically you insert relevant hashtags into your tweets -- hashtags are searchable, so theoretically someone searching for "etsy" or "coffee", should come across my tweet more easily if I have those hashtags in my tweet.

(Note to self --> Try this with your knitting shop, too!)

I mean, obviously I don't want to spam my followers with hashtags, but when done sparingly it seems like a pretty good strategy to find people a little more interested in what I'm working on! We'll see if it works.

Do you have any concrete marketing tips to share that have worked for you? I'm all ears!

  1. I tend to do this with my instagram posts and it has helped me find lots of people. It especially works when I take photos around the city and hash tag them #nyc and/or #newyorkcity. People seem to search those hash tags frequently & I like that I can share my photos of the city that way with people who are genuinely looking for photos of the city :)

Leaving links in my comments won't work.
Don't even try it, people!
