I'm a sucker for big events, even if they represent things I wouldn't normally be interested in in everyday life. Something about the group excitement really gets me excited. Hence the reason why I was (attempting) to watch the World Cup on Sunday.
I say attempting because there was this REALLY ANNOYING buzzing sound going on in the background. I wondered if it was my t.v., or perhaps the network having interference issues. Whatever the case, it made it thoroughly unwatchable. I kid you not, it sounded like a 1,000 hornets buzzing around, trying to sting you.
Then...
This morning, I was listening to one of my favorite podcasts, and they immediately started complaining about these South African horns during the World Cup! Ha! Turns out I wasn't imagining things. What I was hearing was an instrument called a vuvuzela. Apparently they are really popular with South African soccer fans. Not sure why.
Anyway, just glad to know I wasn't crazy, and I really hope this doesn't catch on for other sporting events.
