Just a small little rant about Grey's Anatomy (Contains SPOILERS)

Can I just say... if you haven't started watching Grey's Anatomy yet this season, start with episode 2 and then go back and watch episode 1. It'll make a LOT more sense.

First of all... I spent the first half of episode one wondering why Cali was crying so much. Had Arizona died? Did I miss something? Everything else (mostly) made sense, although it seemed strange that Meredith and Derek constantly referred to vague things like, "Are you sure you want to do this today?" or "It's almost 5:00!" I hate it when writer's write a script that way, intentionally keeping something obviously vague.

When they killed George (way back a million seasons ago), it was a much more elegant script-writing, I'm just saying. I mean, I didn't see that coming, during the episode, and after the reveal it made you think, "Wait! That was under my nose the whole time and I didn't even see it!" But with this new vagueness, it constantly poked at me that I wasn't in on the joke, which was actually rather irritating.

But I digress...

So because I kept feeling like I was missing why Cali was crying (it gave me this nagging sense that I'd missed an episode), I actually Googled "Did Arizona die?" thinking that maybe I'd forgotten a part of the finale from last season.

And... if you've seen this episode... you'll know what I found... a headline that basically said something to the effect of, "Arizona loses a leg and Mark Sloane dies." And it's like... "Wait!!! That was NOT was I was searching for!! Way to spoil the ending!"

So... yes I shouldn't have been Googling while I was watching a show and expected not to see any spoilers, but... would it have been too much to ask to let things play out in order so I don't feel like I missed something? It sucked the drama right out of the episode because I felt like I was coming into the season mid-stride and spent half the time trying to orient myself.

Then I watched this week's episode and it suddenly all made sense. This was where I thought we were going to start last week... at the plane crash and what happened afterwards. I might even have to go back and watch last week's now because that's what feels like should happen next in the sequence of things. Why are you constantly rearranging what feels normal to me, Shonda Rhimes?

  1. I'm just about to watch episode 2. I thought episode 1 was a bit confusing too.

    1. Yup. Hopefully episode 2 will clear things up for you! I know it made much more sense to me after watching that one.

  2. I felt the same way when I watched episode 1. What is up with 5pm?! Although, I thought it was nice how they did Sloan leaving with all the small video clips from the past.

    1. Yup I definitely agree. I loved those video clips.

I just wish they hadn't been so weird about leaving vague clues. It was so distracting to have Cali crying all the time but out of proportion to having it be about Mark. I want to care what's happening to them, but it's hard when I feel like I've missed something! Lol.

  3. I was really disappointed after episode 1 also!! I wasn't 100% satisfied with episode 2 either, I didn't like all the fast forwarding. I get that it was over a long period of time so they wanted to fit it all in, but I feel like there was a better way to do that. During episode 1 I thought Arizona died too & I thought that was stupid because she wasn't that seriously injured... then it just turned out to be her leg. Obviously, they'll just have her get over this, get a prosthetic, put on pants & go back to as if nothing happened... I'm annoyed they killed Mark & Lexie though, oh well, I guess they had to kill someone. Also, I hated how they referenced that Mark died on Private Practice. I don't like that show as much so I typically watch them way late, but what if I had watched it first?? It had NOTHING to do with the episode on Private Practice, Addison just randomly got a phone call, said Mark died, then went back to what she was doing [after crying a little]. Ugh.

    Sorry for the rant... lol

  4. I agree, way out of order and super confusing even for a die hard greys fan. I mean REALLY? SERIOUSLY?

    1. Right, exactly! And you bring up a good point that even die-hard fans were confused by this episode. I, for one, consider this to be one of my favorite shows. I've seen every episode. Etc. And yet this episode was awkward - just like, weirdly out-of-context or something.

I have come to expect that Shonda Rhimes will pull weird, crazy plot twists on us, but this particular episode just left me feeling like I was out of the loop, like I'd missed something, which is never a good feeling. It's like, "Wait, did my TiVo miss a week? What's going on here?"

DIY Art Journal

Hi, my name is Linda and I am a 25 year old law student living in Manhattan. I blog over at My Passion Is... about my life, scrapbooking, DIY crafts, photography, exploring NYC & more. I am honored to be sharing a post with you today on Jen's blog, so thanks for having me! I recently completed a mini album that I made out of a pasta box so I wanted to share a tutorial with you so you could make your own! What you need: empty pasta box [I used a whole foods penne pasta] scrapbook papers & embellishments a single hole punch sturdy tape [like packaging tape] a paper cutter and/or scissors some sort of binding, either binding rings or ribbon First, you are going to flatten out your pasta box. Then you are going to cut it down to two 6x6 squares [or whatever size album you want to make]. If the box doesn’t fit perfectly in those shapes that’s alright, just piece them together using packaging tape to hold the squares together. Once you cover them i
