Color Combinations

I've been working on a painting project for my Color class this weekend (well, the project is being done this weekend, not the class). Red, Red-Orange, Orange, Yellow-Orange, Yellow, Yellow-Green, Green, Blue-Green, Blue, Blue-Violet, Violet, and then a full value scale of Blue (light blue to dark blue).

Last term I did a similar thing with a gray value scale, but I'm realizing I never blogged about that!

Anyway, I'm supposed to have this new project done by Wednesday, but so far I've only done 2 1/2 colors. The "half" is violet, but because I did it but it didn't really turn out right so I'm going to have to re-do it. It doesn't look too horrible in the photo, but in real life it looks brown!

OH!! I forgot to mention, all of this has to be done by using only red, yellow, and blue paint. For the value scale, I can also add black and white. Very cool, but it's going to take a lot of time to get all the shades right!

Here's what I've done so far. I started with red and then did two of the color combinations that use red in them -- orange and violet.

When was the last time you mixed paint colors? Which color did you find most difficult to mix?

I'm not really into art, so I never mix paints. But it surely looks like fun!

  3. I'm not really find of mixing paints either I always find it so challenging. I'm always painting but mixing the colors to match the colors in my head is always so difficult and time consuming. Hope you get it all done.

  4. I always found mixing purple and green were the hardest colors to achieve. Isn't painting fun? As I design more, I truly miss the physical act of drawing and painting. It's nice to get messy and feel some real art in your hands, rather than always creating on a keyboard.

Meet a Designer: Stephanie Kubo

I stumbled across a completely fascinating artist today, Stephanie Kubo . Her portfolio doesn't state if she's a working designer, illustrator, etc, but her work is exquisite so I think she fits the bill for including in my Meet a Designer series. Enjoy! (Linking up with Kristen Victoria ).

DIY Art Journal

Hi, my name is Linda and I am a 25 year old law student living in Manhattan. I blog over at My Passion Is... about my life, scrapbooking, DIY crafts, photography, exploring NYC & more. I am honored to be sharing a post with you today on Jen's blog, so thanks for having me! I recently completed a mini album that I made out of a pasta box so I wanted to share a tutorial with you so you could make your own! What you need: empty pasta box [I used a whole foods penne pasta] scrapbook papers & embellishments a single hole punch sturdy tape [like packaging tape] a paper cutter and/or scissors some sort of binding, either binding rings or ribbon First, you are going to flatten out your pasta box. Then you are going to cut it down to two 6x6 squares [or whatever size album you want to make]. If the box doesn’t fit perfectly in those shapes that’s alright, just piece them together using packaging tape to hold the squares together. Once you cover them i
