Technology Detox - Day 7

Has it really been a week since I started my technology detox? I haven't been 100% strict about it, but mainly just wanted to keep an eye on my focusing ability. I've noticed that the more I multi-task, the less able I am to settle into a deep focus when reading/writing/studying. In fact, it's probably been a good 12-14 years since I've been able to settle into a good book without being distracted every five seconds. (With the one exception being the Harry Potter books. As any good bibliophile knows, those books suck you in and don't let you out until you've finished all one hundred gazillion pages of them!) I used to be like that with every book though. In junior high and high school you could barely find me without my nose in a book! Then came the computer revolution and with it my growing need to "keep up" with everything going on online. Being both a creative and a people-watcher, I find the internet to be an endlessly fascinating place to explore!

Anyway...

These past couple days I've finally started settling into a more zen-like state of focus and calm. I used to always feel like I had to fiddle with something, check my email, scan Twitter, see what people were doing on Facebook, check my Etsy stats, etc, etc, etc. Now I'm getting to the place where I can really truly focus on one thing at a time. It's a nice place to be!

School's still insanely crazy, so that's keeping me beyond busy. However, when I need to focus, I'm now finding that it's a lot easier to do! I'd kind of forgotten what that felt like!!

Comments

  1. It does take a while to get back into but once you do, you'll do just fine. I found that my January goals of structured weeks (meaning focusing on different tasks on different days) really helped. And even though the month is over, it's a bit of a habit now. Enjoy being where you are <3

  2. definitely feeling your pain on lack of reading. it takes a really great book, an old favourite, or an entire day (or more) away from all the computers for me to be able to settle into a book these days. :c

Meet a Designer: Stephanie Kubo

I stumbled across a completely fascinating artist today, Stephanie Kubo . Her portfolio doesn't state if she's a working designer, illustrator, etc, but her work is exquisite so I think she fits the bill for including in my Meet a Designer series. Enjoy! (Linking up with Kristen Victoria ).

DIY Art Journal

Hi, my name is Linda and I am a 25 year old law student living in Manhattan. I blog over at My Passion Is... about my life, scrapbooking, DIY crafts, photography, exploring NYC & more. I am honored to be sharing a post with you today on Jen's blog, so thanks for having me! I recently completed a mini album that I made out of a pasta box so I wanted to share a tutorial with you so you could make your own! What you need: empty pasta box [I used a whole foods penne pasta] scrapbook papers & embellishments a single hole punch sturdy tape [like packaging tape] a paper cutter and/or scissors some sort of binding, either binding rings or ribbon First, you are going to flatten out your pasta box. Then you are going to cut it down to two 6x6 squares [or whatever size album you want to make]. If the box doesn’t fit perfectly in those shapes that’s alright, just piece them together using packaging tape to hold the squares together. Once you cover them i
